How many smoke detectors do I need?
Michigan code requires a smoke detector on every level of the home, inside each bedroom, and outside each sleeping area. We'll assess your home and tell you exactly what's needed.
What's the difference between battery and hardwired detectors?
Hardwired detectors are connected to your home's electrical system with a battery backup. They're more reliable, interconnected, and required in new construction. Battery-only units are a backup option for older homes where running wire isn't practical.
How often should smoke detectors be replaced?
Every 10 years — the sensors degrade over time even if the alarm still sounds. CO detectors typically need replacement every 5–7 years. Check the manufacture date on the back of the unit.
Do you service commercial properties?
We handle residential and light commercial. For large commercial fire alarm systems with central monitoring panels, you'll want a licensed fire alarm contractor.
Is a permit required to install smoke detectors?
For new construction and major remodels, yes. For simple replacement of existing units, typically no. We'll confirm what's required for your specific job.
